The next generation of wireless internet connectivity here to stay. Compared to 4G, you’ll have access to faster speeds and a more reliable connection. It promises 10 to 100 times quicker downloads and uploads, smoother streaming capability, higher-quality calls and better mobile connectivity. Sound too good to be true? Let’s find out.
5G is the fifth generation of mobile wireless systems. Its signals run over new radio frequencies, giving it a wider connectivity reach and WIFI access to even more devices- including driverless cars and delivery drones. Depending on your service provider, you can expect a 50% to almost 1000% faster download speed compared to your current 4G network. In order for this to take place, carriers need to install tons of small, pizza-box sized cell sites to light poles, walls or towers, in relatively close proximity to one another. This includes our neighborhoods, schools, parks, hospitals. Once available, you will need 5G enabled devices to use it.
You’re probably wondering how this new technology affects our health. 5G will be transmitted through cell phone towers. These towers will be emitting radio frequency signals nonstop. These radio signals are measured by their wavelengths. The shorter the wavelength, the higher the frequency. 5G signals will use wavelengths (between 30 and 300 gigahertz) that are measured in millimeters. Currently, 4G uses wavelengths of 6 gigahertz. In other words, 5G will substantially increase your exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic fields, also known as RF-EMF.
There are many scientific publications showing that EMF exposure affects living organisms even at levels below most international and national guidelines. These effects include increased cancer risk, cellular stress, an increase in harmful free radicals, genetic and reproductive system damages, learning and memory deficits, neurological problems, and negative impacts on your general well-being.
In 2018, the FCC released a document with specific 5G health risks. They included:
Even 180 scientists and doctors from 36 European countries have issued a warning about the danger of 5G and issued an appeal to the European Union. They urge the EU to follow Resolution 1815 of the Council of Europe, asking for an independent task force to reassess the health effects.
The dangers of 5G goes well beyond humans, as there is growing evidence of detrimental effects to both plants and animals. One of the qualities of 5G is that its millimeter wave is very prone to being absorbed by plants and rain. All of us, including animals, consume plants as a food source. The effects of these waves on plants could result in food that’s not safe to eat. Think GMOs on steroids. The water that falls from the sky onto these plants can also be contaminated. A 2010 study on aspen seedlings showed that the exposure to radio frequencies led to the leaves showing necrosis symptoms- a form of cell injury that results in the premature/localized death of cell walls.
One study investigated how insects, such as the Western honeybee, absorb the higher frequencies (2-120 gigahertz) to be used in the 5G rollout. The simulations showed between a 3% to 370% increase in energy absorbed when exposed to these frequencies. This could lead to changes in insect behavior, physiology, and morphology over time.
Implementation of the 5G global wireless network requires rockets to be launched so that 5G satellites can be deployed. These satellites have a short lifespan, so more frequent launches will be needed. A new type of hydrocarbon rocket engine is expected to power these departures and would emit black carbon which “could cause potentially significant changes in the global atmospheric circulation and distributions of ozone and temperature” according to this study. This rocket exhaust also contains chlorine, which additionally destroys the ozone.
Many local governments, including several in the San Francisco Bay Area and other parts of the country, are trying to stop the 5G rollout, insisting that companies need to prove that the technology isn’t harmful to the population. But the Telecom Act of 1996 prohibits local governments from using health or safety concerns as a reason to block cellphone deployment. Therefore, you should consider taking your own measures.
The most important way to protect yourself from 5G is to get as much distance from these devices as possible. In order to better understand this concept, there is a law in physics called the inverse-square law of physics. Essentially, law states that as we double our distance from a source of radiation (including EMF radiation, like 5G) we quarter our exposure to it. Simple ways to do this include:
Next, you should consider how to protect your home from this potentially harmful radiation:
While there is a lot of talk against the anti-5G community, there are also a lot of compelling discussions by scientists who are fighting against this untested technology. Advocates of 5G believe the benefits it can provide to society outweigh the unknowns. They argue that there is no concrete evidence specifying 5G technology as being dangerous, and reports showing otherwise are speculative. Yet everyone agrees that we need more studies on the potential health effects of 5G networks. We need to be diligent in protecting ourselves, our children and be aware of any ill symptoms that you may experience once you are consistently exposed to 5G.
